 If
golf fascinates you, you may consider staying
at the exotic Sunterra Beach Resort
and Golf Club (previously known as Carambola)
in the west end of St. Croix. Sunterra boasts
the Trent Jones-18 hole golf course, known for
its unparalleled beauty. Golf can also be enjoyed
at the Buccaneer Hotel just east of Christiansted.Baseball
has always been popular in St. Croix ever since
players such as Valmy Thomas and Alphonse “Piggy”
Gerard broke the color barriers in the states
while playing in the professional baseball leagues
on the mainland. Thomas and Gerard were pioneers
and played alongside other great black baseball
players such as Jackie Robinson.
Basketball
is also a popular sport with the town’s young
people. As a matter of fact, NBA players such
as Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs), Raja Bell (Philadelphia
76’ers) and David Vanterpool (Washington Wizards)
grew up and played the sports on the local basketball
courts.
 Water
sports such as diving, fishing and kayaking abound
since one of the island’s greatest resources is
the ocean.
